St John's College and the Bridge of Sighs

The most famous part of St John's is known as the Bridge of Sighs - one of the college's two bridges over the Cam (it's the only college to have two bridges). It is modelled on the original Bridge of Sighs in Venice, but as anyone who has seen the Venetian original will realise, it doesn't look much like it, except that it has tall sides and a roof.St JohnAnother interesting fact is that St John's College fellows are the only people apart from the Royal Family who are legally allowed to eat swans. There are swan traps in the walls of the college by the river, but these are no longer used.
