That's according to a report in New Scientist Magazine this week, heavy people are more likely to die or be seriously injured in a road accident compared with lighter individuals. American researchers looked at the weights of 26,000 car accident victims in Seattle, US, and found that people between 15 and 18 stones are over 2 and a half times more likely to die in an accient than someone weighing 9 and a half stones. The reason for these findings isn't known, but one important point that it does raise is that perhaps car designers should be testing their cars with heavier crash-dummies, particularly since the population are getting larger.
