A 1969 autopsy specimen from a 46 year old man who had been known to have rheumatic endocarditis since his discharge from the army in 1945. In October 1969 he was admitted to Guy's with sub-acute bacterial endocarditis and was treated with intra-venous antibiotics. Despite an initial response his symptoms returned, but did not respond to the normal antibiotics. He died in December 1969.
