An autopsy specimen from a 3 year old child who had had hydrocephalus since birth. Head circumference reaching 55 cm by the end of the second year. A ventriculogram demonstrated symmetrical dilatation of the lateral ventricles, but failed to reveal a deformity of the fourth ventricle due to a tumour subsequently found at autopsy. Deterioration in the child's alertness took place on the day before death. A sudden lapse into coma ensued, death occurring three hours later.
