Acute pancreatitis

A 1967 autopsy specimen from a 57 year old man who collapsed after a heavy drinking bout and remained unconscious at home for at least one day. On admission he was hypothermic and died three days after admission. At necropsy he had early acute pancreatitis with extensive fat necrosis, but no haemorrhage. His liver was large and fatty suggestive of chronic alcohol poisoning.
