A 1940 autopsy specimen from the London Hospital, comprising an almost healed tuberculous spine with marked kyphosis. At the kyphotic apex there is a distorted mass of dense bone which represents the fused bodies of the fifth thoracic to third lumbar vertebrae. Originally partly destroyed by tuberculous, now fused into one small mass of bone by reparative ossification. From a woman aged 45 who gave a history of illness in childhood but was killed in a road traffic accident.
