教授Pam Vallely leads the Virology group at University of Manchester, UK. She obtained her PhD from the University of Sheffield working on human papilloma viruses in cervical cancer. She carries out research into respiratory viral infections and along with every other virologist in the world she has recently developed an interest in SARS-CoV-2. She is currently establishing an antiviral testing laboratory for coronaviruses in Manchester. Aside from the COVID pandemic, her other recent research interests include congenital viral infections particularly cytomegalovirus and she is the link between the European Society for Clinical Virology, for which she holds the office of General Secretary, and the European Congenital Cytomegalovirus Initiative (ECCI) which aims to improve understanding and increase research into this important disease. She is also involved in the education and training of virologists and other healthcare scientists for the UK National Health Service and participated in development of the virology curriculum with the Department of Health. She currently leads a Masters programme in virology and set up the Professional Doctorate for Higher Specialist Scientist Training for Consultant Clinical Scientists.
