A 1958 resection specimen from a 53 year old woman admitted in 1956 with a thirteen year history of intermittent diarrhoea. Ulcerative colitis was confirmed radiologically. Sigmoidoscopy showed a rectal stricture. However, she declined operation and discharged herself against advice. In 1958 was admitted with a relapse. Barium enema showed a filling defect in the transverse colon. At laparotomy this proved to be a carcinoma and a hemicolectomy was performed.
