An operative resection specimen from a 64 year old man who had complained of diarrhoea and colic for one year. A barium meal showed areas of irregularity in the lower sigmoid and the whole of the transverse colon.A later barium enema showed a constricted area in the sigmoid colon. At laparotomy the sigmoid lesion was thought to be malignant. Total colectomy and ileo-rectal anastomosis was carried out.
