A 1937 autopsy specimen from an 88 year old woman who was found lying dead on the hearthrug of her bedroom, two days after she had last been seen. She had had no history of recent illness and bore head injuries, which proved to be of an innocent nature, consistent with collapse from other causes. She had a ruptured diverticular abscess and had died of shock consequent upon perforation.
