Thrombosis of aorto-bifemoral dacron graft

Share

A 1970 autopsy specimen from a 67 year old woman, who had had a myocardial infarct in the past. She subsequently developed pain in her left buttock, and paraesthesiae and coldness of her feet. On examination she had no femoral or distal pulses. Translumbar aortogram showed obstruction of left iliac and both femoral arteries. Subsequently aorto-bifemoral bypass by means of a dacron graft was performed. Despite initial recovery of peripheral pulses she gradually deteriorated and died eleven days after the operation.
