An historic surgical resection specimen from a 24 year old woman who gave a two and a half year history of weight loss, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Barium meal and follow-through showed appearances suggestive of Crohn's disease affecting the terminal ileum and ascending colon, splenic flexure and probably transverse colon. At operation the terminal forty centimetres of ileum and the whole colon was excised, and an ileorectalanastomosis was carried out. She made a satisfactory post-operative recovery.
