Neuropathology: Fungal Cerebral Abscess

A 1974 autopsy specimen from a 12 year old boy, congenitally hypothyroid, but treated satisfactorily. He had febrile convulsions at the age of 4 and again at 7 years. On 4.3.74 he became pyrexial and had two grandmal epileptic seizures. He became stuporose and then deeply unconscious. There were signs of raised intracranial pressure but no localizing or lateralizing signs. Following admission his level of consciousness never improved. He developed bronchopneumonia and died on 3.5.74, two months after the start of his fatal illness.
